Registered Nurse — MedSurg

Location

• Weirton, West Virginia

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Shift

• Nights, 12 hours per shift
• 36 hours per week

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license
• BLS certification
• 1 year of experience
• Must submit a copy of an unexpired driver’s license
• Licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission

Schedule

• Every other weekend
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• No self-scheduling or block scheduling
• Travelers are expected to be flexible to help fill gaps in the permanent schedule

Unit Details

• 48 beds
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5–7 on days, 1:6–8 on nights
• Charge nurse may take an assignment on day shift; on nights, charge may not take an assignment if only one charge nurse is scheduled
• Patient care tech support is available

Common Patient Population

• Pneumonia
• UTI
• Altered mental status
• GI bleed
• Alcohol withdrawal
• Falls and weakness

Clinical Responsibilities

• May titrate certain drips, with exceptions
• No cardiac drip titration
• Common titratable or set-rate drips include heparin, bumex, and lasix
• Respiratory therapy manages breathing treatments, inhalers, ABGs, and respiratory equipment
• Telemetry monitoring is handled by monitor techs; nurses are not expected to read or interpret telemetry strips

Floating

• May float to other MedSurg, MedSurg-Tele, or IMC areas for lower-acuity patients

Orientation

• 1 day with educator/computer system
• 1 day with a preceptor

Dress Code

• Navy blue scrubs
