Overview

• Role: RN (Registered Nurse)
• Specialty / unit: 3N - Cardiac Tele
• Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36

Required Qualifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• Must be able to read strips
• Must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license

Unit Details

• 43 beds
• Average nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, with flexibility up to 1:6
• Common patient types include post heart caths, TR Bands, CHF, COPD, post pacers, medical management, waiting for CABG consult, and arrhythmias
• RN is expected to titrate Heparin; occasional Lasix or Bumex may also be titrated
• RN must be able to read strips; monitor techs are also on the unit
• Charge nurse coverage is 24/7
• PCT support is available

Scheduling and Work Conditions

• Self-scheduling is allowed
• Block scheduling may be accommodated if unit needs are met
• Weekend requirement applies for travelers
• Call or standby may occur if census is low, but it is rare

Floating

• Travelers are part of the float rotation
• May float anywhere in the hospital, including ICU and Stepdown, within skillset

Orientation

• 1 day of computer training
• 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor
• On their own on the 3rd day

Additional Notes

• Unit is used to new grads and is willing to teach
• Fast-paced unit with frequent admissions and discharges
