Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN with a DC license for a Medical Surgical Oncology position, with a focus on radiation therapy and care for oncology patients.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a hospital-based Medical Surgical Oncology unit
  • Patient population includes adults receiving radiation therapy for cancer diagnoses
  • Role requires care in a Radiation Treatment Center and support for Radiation Medicine
  • Shifts rotate between 1300-2100 and 1200-2030, Monday through Friday
  • Day shift schedule is typically 8:00 - 16:30
  • Utilizes the Cerner EMR system
  • Role may include office duties such as chart preparation, pharmacy calls, and disability forms
  • Nurse navigator/care coordination responsibilities
  • Primary duties include patient education, skincare and wound care, assessment of radiation toxicity, and addressing social needs
  • Responsible for telephone triage and coordination with physicians and emergency services as needed
  • Must provide care for patients reporting daily for radiation therapy
  • Flu vaccination required for all employees
  • Orientation may include up to 12 hours of modules completed prior to and during the orientation period
  • A minimum of 1 year gap is required for return staff who were previous employees of the health system
  • Local candidates within 60 miles may be considered but will be offered a different pay rate
  • No more than 7 days of time off (RTO) per 13-week contract is strongly preferred, with no RTO permitted in the first two weeks
  • Scrub or dress code requirements not specified

Requirements

  • Active DC RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • At least one completed travel assignment preferred
  • Experience in oncology or radiation oncology strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with port and central line care, IV starts, and management of oncologic emergencies such as acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, and sepsis
  • Experience with Cerner charting preferred
  • Two supervisory references from the past two years required
