Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a skilled RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a MO or compact license and strong recent specialty experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Med/Surg Telemetry unit providing intermediate level of care
• Night shifts of 3 x 12 hours, 18:45 to 07:15
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5
• Care for a varied patient population including cardiac, neuro, respiratory failure, post-surgical, and renal failure cases
• Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities is required
• Weekend shifts required: 8 weekend shifts in each 6-week schedule period (Fri/Sat/Sun)
• Epic EMR system is used, and experience with Epic is preferred
• Daily census is around 30 patients
• Provide nursing care to a wide range of patient presentations including heart failure, stroke, trauma, ETOH withdrawal, TIA, falls, COVID, and GI bleeds
• Duties include blood product administration, heparin protocol management, pre/post-surgical care, neuro and cardiac monitoring, wound care, and use of rapid response teams
• Charge nurse assignments may be required as needed by the unit
• Holiday shift coverage may be required per unit needs
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• No travel partners accepted for this assignment
• Maximum of 7 days of requested time off allowed
• Completion of required training modules prior to start and annually thereafter
• A drug screen is required; candidates with diluted or positive results that cannot be cleared by the MRO must wait 6 months before reapplying

Requirements

• Active MO or compact RN license must be in hand prior to consideration
• At least 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry specialty experience with no gap greater than 90 days in the past year
• Minimum of 1 year in Med/Surg Tele within the past 12 months
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias, provide telemetry monitoring, handle rapid response, and manage feeding tubes, central lines, and IV therapy
• Proficiency in Epic EMR or willingness to learn
• References required: two within the past year, at least one from a supervisor level or above and one may be a charge RN
• Must live more than 75 miles from the facility
• Pending licenses are not accepted
