Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) day-shift position requiring DC RN licensure and expertise with telemetry and intermediate care.
Responsibilities
- Work in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) providing care to patients boarding in the ED awaiting inpatient placement
- 13-week contract with 3x12 hour day shifts (7:00 am – 7:30 pm)
- Patient ratio is 1:4-5
- Unit contains 40 rooms and sees an average of 140 visits per day
- Floating required to units of equal or lower acuity
- Weekend work required every other weekend
- Charting is conducted in Cerner EMR; Cerner experience is required
- Uses Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Care may include patients who are COVID-19 positive
- Responsibilities include care for patients with varying diagnoses who are awaiting inpatient beds
- Must be able to manage patients under isolation precautions and use nasal cannulas, PCAs, and heparin protocols
- Experience with cardiac telemetry, ER holding, stepdown, or intermediate care is preferred
- Flexible scrub color policy—any color acceptable
- Parking costs apply at work location
- Must be willing to care for COVID-19 patients as needed
- First-time travelers are not eligible; prior travel RN experience required
- Return staff must have a one-year gap from prior employment with the health system
- No more than 7 days of time off requested per 13 week contract; none allowed during the first two weeks
- Completion of onboarding modules required prior to and possibly during orientation
- Must provide two recent supervisor references for consideration
Requirements
- Active DC RN license required; pending DC license accepted with proof at application and must be in hand by start date
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience in relevant clinical setting
- At least 1 prior travel RN assignment required
- Must pass Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (80% overall, 100% on lethal rhythms)
- Proficiency in telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, insulin drip titration, feeding tube management, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and pre/post hemodialysis management
