Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Float Pool ICU assignment in Washington, requiring a WA or compact RN license and strong ICU skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital float pool covering ICU, PCU, Med-Surg, ED holding, and other inpatient units
• Primary assignment will be in the ED holding unit with floating to other units as needed
• ICU patient types include respiratory failure, sepsis, post-operative, GI bleeds, and DKA
• Patient ratios include ICU 1:2, PCU/CCU 1:4, Med-Surg 1:5, and Rehab 1:8 with a team model
• 12-hour day shifts with weekend scheduling varying by unit needs
• EMR system used is Epic; familiarity is recommended
• Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis med dispensing equipment
• Partial floating required within scope of practice, including to PCU, Med-Surg, and Rehab
• Primary responsibilities include caring for high-acuity patients and floating to units as needed
• Must be flexible, resourceful, and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment
• Support staff includes techs, 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists
• Orientation consists of 2 days general and 1 day unit-specific, with 4 hours for additional units when floating
• No self-scheduling or holiday requests; time off up to 5 days may be approved
• First-time travelers are accepted for this assignment
• Dress code and scrub color will be reviewed during orientation

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required, or proof of pending application with date
• Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience required for ICU assignments
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, and invasive line management
• Strong communication and patient education skills
• Epic EMR and telemetry competency required
