Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a Float Pool position covering ED Hold and multiple units, requiring a WA or compact license and at least 2 years of ICU experience.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital Float Pool environment, primarily supporting ED Hold with coverage in MSICU, PCU, CCU, Med-Surg, and Rehab as needed
• Patient populations include respiratory failure, GI bleeds, sepsis, post-operative, cardiac, stroke, oncology, ortho, and more
• ICU assignments have a 1:2 nurse-patient ratio based on acuity
• PCU/CCU assignments have a 1:4 ratio; Medical/Surgical 1:5; Rehab 1:8 in a team model
• Care involves advanced therapies such as rotoprone, manual prone, hypothermia protocol, and CRRT (not required to take flap surgery patients)
• Unit uses Epic EMR; experience with Epic preferred
• Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication systems are utilized
• Floating is required within scope of practice to various units and partial shifts
• 12-hour day shifts required; weekends vary per unit needs, no holiday self-scheduling or on-call
• Primary focus is in ED Holding with mixed diagnoses and a fast-paced environment requiring resourcefulness
• May assist with ACLS-level transports across hospital departments
• Collaborate with 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist support, as well as unit techs
• Schedule is provided three weeks at a time, approximately ten days in advance
• Up to five days of time off may be approved; additional requests must be approved by management
• No holiday requests accepted and must be punctual for assigned units at shift start
• Two days of hospital orientation and one day unit-specific orientation included, with additional orientation upon floating to new units
• First-time travelers accepted for this position

Requirements

• Active WA or compact RN license required prior to start
• Minimum of 2 years ICU experience required for ICU assignments
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, invasive line management, and ostomy/drain/trach care
• Strong communication and patient education skills are essential
• Must complete facility and unit orientation, including telemetry competency
• Experience with Epic EMR and Alaris IV pumps preferred
