Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Family Birthing Center (Labor & Delivery, Mother/Baby) assignment requiring a CA RN license and advanced perinatal certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Family Birthing Center (LDRP) with labor & delivery, mother/baby, and antepartum patients
• Unit includes OBED beds, LDRP beds, overflow postpartum beds, and one OR suite for C-sections
• Handles 70-80 births per month with antepartum NST testing averaging 60-70 per month
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Labor 1:2, 1:1 at delivery, 1:4 for mother/baby couplets
• NICU supports newborn stabilization with a 2-bed capacity
• Typical cases include pregnancies 35+ weeks, twins, and delivery attendance; preterm <35 weeks transferred out
• Use of Cerner EMR and Fetalink electronic fetal monitoring system; GE fetal monitoring in use
• Required to titrate pitocin and occasional insulin drips
• Shift is 12-hour nights with every other weekend required
• Must float to other Sacramento area facilities if needed
• May be placed on-call/standby and must be able to present within 30 minutes
• Perform all aspects of LDRP nursing, including catching newborns and supporting cesarean deliveries
• No in-house pediatric coverage; must be comfortable stabilizing newborns at delivery
• OB present in-house 24/7; anesthesia is on call with a required 20-minute response time unless actively managing epidurals
• Respiratory therapy attends every delivery and assists with respiratory support and equipment
• No CNAs on unit; one OB Tech per shift
• Charge nurse or shift manager on every shift, but may take a patient load if needed
• Holiday shifts rotate with core staff
• Sterile technique and dysrhythmia testing required during orientation
• Candidates may not have directly worked at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the last 12 months

Requirements

• Active CA RN license at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years recent labor & delivery or LDRP RN experience (1 year LDRP required; 3 years preferred)
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Comfortable providing neonatal resuscitation at delivery
• Must have OR circulating experience if L&D-only background; postpartum-only experience not accepted
• Experience titrating pitocin drips required
• Two professional references: one supervisor from last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from last 3 years
