Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) night shift position requiring stepdown and telemetry experience and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience.
Details
- 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit located in the Heart Tower of a large regional hospital in Asheville, NC
- Primary patient population includes CV surgery and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, lobectomy, thoracotomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomies) as well as overflow medical cardiology patients with diagnoses such as heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, and heart block
- Patient ratio is 1:5 RN to patient; PCT ratio is 1:13
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) required per 6-week schedule period
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to any stepdown unit (1:5), med-surg unit (1:6–7), or ER inpatient holding area (1:6)
- Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps, CADD epidural pumps, and various lifts
- EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN clinical experience in a stepdown or progressive care setting
- Stepdown experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration — no exceptions
- One professional reference required (two required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — no local candidates considered
Additional Information
- Procedures performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, and ketamine)
- Prior CV surgery and vascular surgery population experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred
- CVICU experience is preferred
- Unit staffing on nights includes a charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC
- Flexibility to work holidays is expected
- Dress code: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white scrubs
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- This is a Level II trauma center and comprehensive stroke center serving as the region's primary referral hospital
- 13-week contract
