Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Mixed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a short-term acute care hospital in Indiana, requiring solid neuro experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities
- Work setting is a 194-bed short-term acute care hospital
- Mixed acuity PCU unit providing both medical-surgical and progressive levels of care across oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary specialties
- Patient population includes medical-surgical, PCU, oncology, and stroke patients, including unstable strokes
- MS patient ratio is 1:5–6; PCU patient ratio is 1:3–4
- Procedures and drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix, and Insulin drips, as well as BiPAP management and IV insulin protocols
- Post-cardiac cath and post-pacemaker patient care is required
- Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts, 18:00–06:30
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
- Charting system: Cerner (experience required)
- Scrub color: red top, black bottoms
- Free parking available on-site
- Responsibilities include managing cardiac drips (Cardizem, Amiodarone), titrating insulin drips, BiPAP management, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, CVA patient care, oncology monitoring, and post-procedure cardiac care (cath, pacemaker, Watchman, ablation)
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO can be auto-approved; additional RTO beyond 5 days requires facility approval
- Any current or former permanent or PRN employee of IU Health must have a 12-month break before applying as a traveler
- Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment within IU Health must take a designated consecutive break to reset travel eligibility (effective 2/24/26); out-of-state residents require a 90-day break and in-state residents require a 180-day break prior to reaching their year mark
- Local candidates (Indiana residents) are not accepted for this PCU position
Requirements
- Active IN state RN license, compact license, or IN temporary license required; must be in hand prior to start
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (AHA and RQI formats accepted; must be current)
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong MS/Tele or PCU background required
- Solid neurological nursing experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited university required
- 2 supervisor references required for consideration
- SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- Indiana residents are not eligible for this position (exception applies to Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers only)
