Details

  • Acute care hospital setting, Surgical Acute unit (Tower 8) — a 30-bed Trauma, Ortho, and Surgical telemetry floor
  • Common patient diagnoses include post-op transplants (day 1), Whipple procedures, spine, ortho joints, and trauma cases — with a large volume of transplant and Whipple patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:4–5
  • Philips telemetry monitoring equipment used; ventilator support includes BiPAP and CPAP
  • Charting via Cerner EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts
  • 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage integrated into permanent staff rotation
  • Floating required to Observation, VMU, T6, T5, 6N, 5N, and other Med/Surg and Telemetry units
  • SWAT RN (IV Team), RT, and Pharmacy available 24/7
  • Navy scrubs required

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience required
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
  • Must provide a copy of a valid driver's license
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include caring for post-surgical, trauma, orthopedic, and transplant patients in a high-acuity telemetry environment
  • 2-shift floor-specific orientation provided
  • Day 1 of orientation includes a pass/fail SIMs Lab assessment covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; maintaining sterile field is critical — nurses have been released during SIMs Lab for breaking sterile field
  • Additional orientation covers lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only)
  • Charge RN on unit does not take a patient assignment; 2 nurse aides on days and 1 on nights
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
  • Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted
  • Men must be clean-shaven (for fit test compliance)
  • Personal vehicle required
