Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across multiple regional facilities.

Details

  • Works across an Acute Decompression and Transition Unit (ADTU) and satellite units, functioning as a resource team member to decompress the ED and other specialty areas
  • Patient population is adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, pulmonary embolism, DVT, GI bleeds, CVA, and trauma-related injuries
  • RN patient ratios vary by unit: 1:5–6 on the main unit (6CD, acuity-dependent; up to 1:7–8 during surge) and 1:4 on satellite units (3K, 5A, 3L, 1T)
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation and telemetry monitoring are nurse-managed responsibilities; there is no dedicated tele tech
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or callback requirements
  • Floating is required across regional facilities within scope of practice; candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
  • EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Required skills include: stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
  • Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • Experience at a Level I Trauma or academic teaching hospital is relevant to this role
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the assigned home unit; local candidates are not accepted
  • Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary, a free charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists
  • Nurses are responsible for monitoring telemetry on their unit and documenting a rhythm interpretation each shift
  • Orientation includes facility NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Schedules are posted on a 6-week cycle
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved per contract, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Required scrub color: navy blue
  • Free parking is available
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
  • Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
