Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry satellite unit (5A) within an Acute Decompression and Transfer Unit (ADTU), primarily focused on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with common diagnoses such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, pulmonary embolism, DVT, GI bleeds, CVA, and trauma injuries (falls, MVC)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on the 5A unit
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation required
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
• Floating is required within the assigned region and scope of practice, potentially to multiple facilities within the region
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
• Nurses are responsible for monitoring and interpreting telemetry each shift — no dedicated tele tech

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Level I Trauma and teaching hospital experience strongly preferred given the facility environment
• Required clinical skills include: stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
• Medication drip management required, including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• The unit is supported by CNAs, a unit secretary, a free charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and intensivist coverage
• Resource nurses on long-term contracts work alongside travelers within the department
• Orientation includes general facility onboarding (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
• Required scrub color: Navy Blue

• First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
