Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position covering ED holds at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, working 12-hour night shifts with regional floating requirements.
Details
- Work setting is a 874-bed Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Travelers are most commonly placed as Med/Tele RNs to cover ED holds in a 43-bed ED with 20 additional boarding beds
- Patient population includes trauma (GSW, stabbing, MVA, falls), stroke, heart failure, chest pain, COPD, cardiac cath pre-op, ETOH/CIWA, IVDA, mental health, respiratory illness, GI disorders, liver failure, and AKI/CKD
- Max RN patient ratio is 1:5 (acuity dependent); CNA ratio is 1:7
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- No on-call responsibilities for travelers
- Floating is required across Region 1 facilities, including Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and the Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH); travel time between facilities mid-shift is compensated
- EMR: Epic; IV Pump: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell; Monitors: Philips
- Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors — there is no dedicated monitoring tech
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Required certifications for Med/Tele RN role: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Additional certifications required if placed in ED RN role: PALS and CPI; TNCC preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience (if placed as ED RN) or 2 years of Med/Tele experience (if placed as Med/Tele RN)
- Most recent experience must be within the last year
- Med/Tele RN skills required: cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley), PCA pumps, and medication drip management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- ED RN skills required: trauma and stroke experience, cardiac rhythm interpretation, conscious sedation, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, and critical care drips including blood administration
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, a 24/7 charge nurse, IV/VAT team, resource nurse (as available), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), and intensivist (24/7); phlebotomy is available for peripheral draws only
- Orientation includes a NEO session plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any unmet contracted hours due to time off must be added to the end of the contract
- Navy scrubs required
- Parking is free
