Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Work within an Acute Destination and Transit Unit (ADTU) and satellite med/surg and med/tele units focused on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with common diagnoses such as COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, pulmonary embolism, DVT, GI bleeds, CVA, and trauma-related injuries
- RN-to-patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:5-6 depending on unit, with surge staffing potentially increasing ratios to 1:7-8 on the main unit
- Nurses are responsible for monitoring patient telemetry and completing a rhythm interpretation each shift — no dedicated tele tech
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within assigned region to multiple facilities as needed and within scope of practice — candidates must be willing to float or should not apply
- EMR: Epic
- IV Pump: Alaris | Med Dispensing: Omnicell | Monitors: Philips
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
- General Med/Tele skills required including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, PCA pumps)
- Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF required
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Level I Trauma, 874-bed academic teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
- Comprehensive unit support includes CNAs, a unit secretary, a free charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT Team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; additional time may be added to the contract end if contracted hours cannot be met within the original timeframe
- Schedules are set on a 6-week cycle
- Scrub color: Navy Blue | Parking is free
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
