Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neonatal ICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment.

Details

  • Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital setting with 247 licensed beds
  • 53-bed NICU with an average patient census of 58, including overflow capacity
  • High-acuity neonatal patient population including respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PPHN, PDA), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and complex GI/GU/endocrine/musculoskeletal diagnoses including NEC, NAS, sepsis, and congenital anomalies
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
  • Specialized skills utilized include vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, CRRT, baby-side ECMO, EVDs, Camino device (ICP/temp monitoring), chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, and Alaris/Medfusion pump management
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0715)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) per 6-week scheduling cycle
  • No on-call requirement; if the NICU cannot utilize a traveler, they may be floated to similar units
  • Floating may occur to Neonatal PCU, Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or General Pediatrics as a helping hand (unless prior experience in those areas allows for full assignment)

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency with critical care skills including vasoactive drips, invasive line management, ventilator/trach care, and sedation/analgesic drip management
  • Experience with CRRT preferred; ECMO (baby side), EVD, and ICP monitoring experience preferred but manager has shown flexibility
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located 50+ miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Care responsibilities include management of critically ill neonates across respiratory, cardiac, neurological, and surgical diagnoses using advanced monitoring and life-sustaining equipment
  • Robust departmental support includes a charge nurse, resource nurse, unit secretary, IV/VAT/PICC team, respiratory therapy, intensivist, residents, APPs, and unit-based educators — all available 24/7
  • Centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring available on the unit
  • Orientation includes a facility NEO orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Schedule is built every 6 weeks based on unit needs after the core team schedule is completed; Clinical Supervisor will provide dates of need
  • Holiday coverage is required; travelers are expected to work every other holiday while contracted, including the day of and the day before or after the holiday
  • RTO requires manager approval; candidates with significant time-off needs should be aware that an extension may be required to accommodate
  • Scrub color: solid navy; long-sleeve underlayers must be solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops required; no organizational-branded attire
  • 'Bare Below the Elbow' policy in effect: no watches, jewelry (real or artificial), or artificial nails permitted
  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval depending on current staffing levels
