Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3/4 NICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity neonatal ICU experience.

Details

  • 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
  • Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital setting
  • Patient population includes complex neonatal respiratory, cardiac, neurological, GI/GU, and metabolic diagnoses including RDS, congenital heart defects (TOF, VSD, HLHS), HIE, NEC, NAS, ECMO, and more
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (sign-on/sign-off 6:45 AM–7:15 PM), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other Saturday/Sunday within each 6-week scheduling cycle
  • No on-call requirements; if the NICU has no need, travelers may be floated to similar units
  • Floating may occur to the Neonatal PCU or General Pediatrics, including as a helping hand to Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds (unless the candidate has prior experience in those areas)
  • EMR: Epic experience required
  • IV Pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and NRP certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced neonatal environment
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Required skills include: management of critical care vasoactive drips, invasive line management (art lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, CRRT experience, and baby-side ECMO (manager has shown flexibility on EVD, ICP monitoring, ECMO, and CRRT experience)
  • Additional required skills include: Alaris and Medfusion pump management, oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube and feeding tube management, foley insertion and management, epidural and PCA management, sedation and analgesic drip management, aseptic and sterile technique, and basic dressing changes
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide high-acuity neonatal nursing care across a wide range of complex diagnoses and procedures
  • Robust unit support includes a unit secretary, charge nurse, IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors — all available 24/7 where noted
  • Orientation consists of NEO orientation plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scheduling is determined on a 6-week cycle based on unit needs after the core team schedule is finalized; Clinical Supervisor provides dates of need
  • Travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled; unit requirement includes the day of, and the day before or after, every other holiday during the contract
  • RTO requires manager approval; travelers with significant time-off needs may be required to extend their contract to accommodate
  • Scrub color: solid navy blue; long-sleeve shirts permitted if solid navy or white; pediatric-friendly scrub tops required; no tight scrubs or other organization-branded attire
  • 'Bare Below Elbow' policy is enforced in the nursery — no watches, jewelry (real or plastic rings included), or artificial nails
  • First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis with manager approval, depending on current staffing
  • Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
