Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Neonatal ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience.
Details
- 53-bed NICU unit with an average patient census of 58, plus overflow capacity
- Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital setting
- High-acuity neonatal patient population including respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PPHN, PDA), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and complex GI/GU/multisystem diagnoses including NEC, NAS, sepsis, and congenital anomalies
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps; medication dispensing via Omnicell; monitoring via Philips
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (badge in 6:45 AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation required: 2 Fridays and 2 Mondays, plus every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) within each 6-week scheduling cycle
- No on-call requirements for travelers; if the NICU cannot utilize a traveler, floating to similar units may occur
- Floating may occur to the Neonatal PCU or, as a helping hand, to Pediatric CVICU, PICU, or general Peds — unless the traveler has prior experience in those populations
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Comfort working in a high-acuity, fast-paced NICU environment is essential
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required skills include: management of critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (arterial lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, sedation and analgesic drip management, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, oral/nasal suctioning, g-tube/j-tube and feeding tube management, foley insertion and management, aseptic and sterile technique, basic dressing changes, epidural and PCA management, and participation in bedside procedures
- Experience with EVDs, Camino device (ICP and temperature monitoring), ECMO (baby side), and CRRT is preferred; manager has shown flexibility on these specific skills
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Robust unit support includes a unit secretary every shift, 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 intensivist, in-house residents and APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators on AM and PM shifts, and 6 clinical supervisors
- Orientation consists of a NEO program plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Scheduling is completed on a 6-week cycle based on unit needs; the Clinical Supervisor provides the dates of need after the core team schedule is finalized
- Travelers are expected to work holidays as scheduled; the unit requirement covers the day of the holiday and the eve and/or day after, on an every-other-holiday basis throughout the contract
- RTO requires manager approval; travelers with significant time-off needs may be asked to extend their contract to accommodate
- Scrub color is navy; solid navy or white long-sleeve shirts are permitted underneath; scrubs must not be tight, and pediatric-friendly scrub tops are preferred
- Organizational-branded attire from other health systems should not be worn
- "Bare Below the Elbow" policy is enforced in the nursery: no watches, jewelry (permanent or plastic), or artificial nails
- Parking is provided free of charge
- First-time travelers may be considered on a case-by-case basis pending manager approval based on current staffing needs
- Candidates who have previously held a permanent position at an Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
