Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3/4 NICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of high-acuity neonatal ICU experience.
Details
- 53-bed NICU (plus overflow) with an average census of 58 patients in a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- High-acuity neonatal patient population including respiratory (RDS, TTN, MAS, BPD), cardiac (TOF, VSD, HLHS, PDA, PPHN), neurological (seizures, IVH, HIE), and GI/GU/metabolic/infectious diagnoses
- Patient ratios vary by acuity: 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, PIV ultrasound, Tecotherm, and MOMs breast milk scanning
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (badge-in 6:45 AM), 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation requires 2 Fridays, 2 Mondays, and every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) per 6-week schedule cycle
- No on-call requirement; if the NICU cannot utilize a traveler, floating to similar units may occur
- May float to Neonatal PCU or General Peds as a helping hand (Pediatric CVICU, PICU, general peds); travelers with prior experience in these areas may float in a more active capacity
- Holiday coverage required; unit expectation is coverage on the holiday itself and the eve and/or day after, every other holiday while contracted
- Schedule is determined every 6 weeks based on unit needs after the core team schedule is finalized
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications: BLS and NRP
- Minimum 2 years of Level 3 and/or Level 4 NICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Must be comfortable in a high-acuity, fast-paced neonatal environment
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required clinical skills include: vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (arterial lines, CVP), ventilator and trach management, chest tube management, CRRT experience, baby-side ECMO experience (manager has shown flexibility on EVD, ICP monitoring, ECMO, and CRRT), sedation/analgesic drip management, Alaris and Medfusion pump management, aseptic and sterile technique, and g-tube/j-tube management
- Permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
Additional Information
- Robust unit support includes a unit secretary every shift, 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 IV/VAT/PICC team, resource nurse, 24/7 RT, 24/7 intensivist, in-house residents and APPs, centralized and bedside telemetry monitoring, unit-based educators (AM and PM), and 6 clinical supervisors
- Orientation consists of 2 days of departmental onboarding
- Scrub color is navy; solid navy or white long-sleeve shirts are permitted underneath; scrubs must not be tight and should feature pediatric-friendly tops; no other organization-branded attire
- "Bare Below Elbow" policy in the nursery: no watches, jewelry (real or plastic rings), or artificial nails
- Unit culture emphasizes teamwork, trust, accountability, respect, and flexibility
- RTO requires manager approval; travelers with significant time-off needs may be asked to extend their contract to accommodate
- First-time travelers may be considered with manager approval, depending on current staffing
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
