Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a unique GI/IR Hybrid position requiring dual proficiency in GI endoscopy and interventional radiology, with on-call responsibilities and Cerner experience.
Details
- Work in a GI-IR Hybrid unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Unique hybrid role covering IR and procedural sedation in the AM and GI cases in the PM
- GI cases include EGDs, colonoscopies, ERCPs, and occasional stents and banding for bleeds; most are outpatient and straightforward
- IR cases include tunneled dialysis catheters, paracentesis, thoracentesis, liver biopsies — basic IR only, no vascular
- Approximately 3 GI cases per day Mon–Thu, 7–8 cases on Fridays; 3–7 IR cases per day depending on GI/IR split
- Unit operates 2 suites running 1 team of 3 per day; 2 staff rotate between IR and GI, 1 strictly IR
- 10-hour day shifts scheduled Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
- On-call required: GI coverage Mon–Fri 4pm–8am and Saturday–Sunday 7am–8am (25-hour weekend call)
- First to float; may float to a sister hospital depending on skillset (other GI or IR departments, ICU, or ER)
- EMR: Cerner (experience preferred)
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required (must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted)
- Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and NIHSS
- Procedural Sedation Certification required to manage airways (can be obtained during orientation if not already held)
- Minimum 1 year of GI or IR nursing experience required
- Candidates with IR-only background must have at least 1 year of IR, ICU, or ER experience
- Strong GI experience is the primary skillset needed; candidates with strong IR experience and no GI will also be considered
- Knowledge of how to tech for GI cases is strongly preferred
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- GI role: primarily circulating; will tech for GI cases if experienced (strongly preferred) — no pre-op or recovery duties
- IR role: circulating and procedural sedation — no pre-op or recovery duties
- Perioperative charge nurse oversees both units; IR techs will scrub; no GI techs — RNs fill this role
- Instrument techs handle scope cleanings on weekdays; candidates willing to learn scope cleaning for weekend call coverage are a plus
- Orientation is approximately 5 days, covering unit familiarization and Cerner charting
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation; candidates have two attempts — failure on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status with CommonSpirit Sacramento and Arizona regions
- A sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is administered on the first day of orientation; failure on the second attempt also results in DNU status
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- One holiday shift required if holidays fall within the contract period
- Scrubs are provided
- Small department with a collaborative physician team
- A profile review and full unit manager interview are part of the selection process
Facility
Mercy Hospital of Folsom
- Short Term Acute Care
