Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring 2-3 years of MS experience and active SC or Compact RN licensure.
Details
- 13-bed inpatient adult acute med/surg unit at a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 820 staffed beds
- Serves adult medical and surgical patients from general and family medicine service lines, including direct and new admissions from the ED, post-recovery, and other inpatient units
- Patient diagnoses span a wide variety including renal, gastrointestinal, endocrine/metabolic, cardiac, surgical, and respiratory conditions
- Patient ratio of 1:4-5
- Rotating shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, with both day (7:00a-7:30p) and night (7:00p-7:30a) shifts depending on unit needs
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation required
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required
- Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
- Remote telemetry monitoring performed on unit
Requirements
- Active SC RN license or Compact/Multi-State RN license required; candidates with a pending SC license may be considered but must be fully licensed before starting
- Current BLS certification required (AHA-issued only)
- 2-3 years of med/surg RN experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be able to practice independently, as this is a new unit opening
- Proficiency with IV therapy, phlebotomy, port access and management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral and PICC line care, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience with respiratory management including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and oxygen tanks
- Experience with gastrointestinal care including colostomy/ileostomy management and feeding tube care
- Medication administration experience including heparin, insulin, and PCA
- Wound care and wound vac experience
- Experience with isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
- Experience with surgical drains
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring experience and familiarity with Rapid Response/Code team protocols
- SSN and Driver's License required for consideration
- Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Previous permanent or PRN staff of the MUSC system must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible to work as a traveler
- Local candidates (within 60 miles of the facility) are accepted on a case-by-case basis; non-local candidates are prioritized
- Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility should be prepared to provide a Driver's License as proof of address
- Charge nurse experience is preferred
- Teaching hospital experience is preferred
- BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac), and IV insulin protocol experience are preferred skills
- Online modules are required to be completed prior to the start date (approximately 4 hours)
- Scrub color requirement: solid royal blue or white top with royal blue bottoms for all RNs
- Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June–November), all staff and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams; peak hurricane months are August and September
- RTO requests exceeding 7 days or including holidays are subject to facility approval and may delay the placement process; RTO must be disclosed upfront
- Block scheduling may be requested but is subject to manager and unit approval
