Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA, requiring strong ortho, spine, and robotics experience with on-call availability.
Details
- Hospital-based OR setting at a 375-bed Level III Trauma Center in Puyallup, WA
- 12-OR suite running 11 rooms daily plus a 12th hybrid OR, handling 40–50 cases per day
- Adult surgical cases include ortho (total joint required), ortho spine, sports medicine, robotics (Da Vinci), ENT (thyroid), general surgery, GYN, vascular (AV fistula, fem-pops), urology, and podiatry
- Minimal pediatric cases, primarily ENT
- No open heart, transplant, or high-level neuro procedures (e.g., EVDs)
- RN role is circulator only
- 12-hour shifts with variable start times of 0630, 0830, or 1030; shift length and start time may vary weekly based on department needs
- Must be available to work 7 days a week unless approved by the nurse manager
- Occasional weekends required based on department needs
- On-call required: 4–6 call shifts per 6-week schedule period, including potential nights (2230–0700) and weekends
- 30-minute on-call response time required; no sleep rooms available
- Floating to inpatient areas (MS, ICU, PCU, ED Holding, PACU, ED) may be required during low OR census; RN will not take a patient assignment, administer medications, or work outside OR/ORT scope of practice during float
- Charting systems: Epic (required for CAP backfills/preceptors), Alaris, and Pyxis
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of acute/inpatient OR experience required
- Strong hands-on experience in ortho, sports medicine, spine, and robotics (Da Vinci) required
- Total joint experience required
- Epic EMR experience required for CAP backfill/preceptor roles
- Must be able to pass a rhythm exam prior to start
- At least one supervisor-level reference (charge nurse, manager, director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference required prior to start
- COVID vaccination required
Additional Information
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates with less than 2 years of experience but with strong OR background may be considered with nurse manager approval
- Robotic experience with Robotic Mazer/Da Vinci XI is preferred
- Scrubs are provided by the facility
- No personal phones permitted in the OR
- Orientation includes a new employee orientation day followed by unit-specific orientation for the remainder of the first week; Epic training begins on Thursday
- Up to 5 RTO days may be approved; additional RTO requests require nurse manager approval, and missed days may need to be made up at the end of the contract
