Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I Trauma Center in Oak Lawn, IL, requiring OR scrub and circulate skills with Epic experience.

Details

• Work setting is a 794-bed, Level I Trauma Center that is Magnet Designated and a Comprehensive Stroke Center, located in Oak Lawn, IL approximately 45 minutes from Chicago
• Unit is a 28-bed Surgery Room with 2 hybrid rooms for CV/Vascular procedures
• High-volume OR averaging 60–75 cases per day
• Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases spanning general surgery, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, open hearts/CABGs, kidney and heart transplants, donor cases, and Gifts of Hope cases
• Hybrid room sees 5–10 cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions — adults only
• Approximately 20% pediatric cases including open hearts, appendectomies, and cholecystectomies; no liver or lung transplants
• Evening shift: Monday–Friday, 2:15 PM–11:15 PM (8-hour shifts, 40 hours/week)
• OR operates 24/7, 365 days a year; Monday–Friday full operations 7:30 AM–11:00 PM, weekends 7:00 AM–5:00 PM with skeleton crew after hours for trauma and urgent cases
• Weekend rotation: 1 full weekend (Saturday and Sunday) every 4th week
• On-call required: 3 call shifts per 6-week period including 2 weekend call shifts; 30-minute response time required; sleeping room available for on-call team members
• Holiday coverage required: 1 winter holiday and 1 summer holiday
• No floating required
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis
• Schedule is rotation-based, provided 2–4 weeks in advance; no self-scheduling

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2–3 years of acute care OR experience required
• Ability to scrub and circulate required
• Trauma experience at a Level I or II trauma center required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Critical care experience preferred
• Minimum 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
• Candidate's middle name or initial required for consideration

Additional Information

• Orientation includes day one facility and system access setup (logins, online modules, Epic training), followed by unit orientation on days 2–3
• Department support includes a charge nurse (no patient assignment Monday–Friday), resource nurse, anesthesiologist bedside monitoring, ANM, educators, service line reps, and an Epic super-user
• Surgeons utilize preference cards to guide case preparation
• Scrubs are provided by the facility; parking is free
• All time-off requests (RTO) must be submitted via email to the scheduling coordinator
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted at the same rate — no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or any of its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before being eligible for this travel position
