Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float across a regional health system.
Details
- Works in a 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital in Charlotte, NC
- Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA and IVDA, tracheostomies requiring mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA support at 1:9
- 12-hour night shifts (1850–0720), 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within the region and scope of practice, including Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates must be agreeable to this requirement
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitors: Philips
- No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurse, clinical supervisor, and staff are responsible for reading and posting rhythm strips each shift
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 18 months of PCU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Experience with trached/vented patients, temporary/transvenous pacemakers, cardiac drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

- Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Unit support includes CNAs, a charge nurse, virtual nursing (for admissions/discharges, virtual patient observation, and RN witness co-signing), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a dedicated unit pharmacist, case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, 24/7 hospitalist, and intensivist coverage until midnight with on-call critical care MD after
- Orientation includes a New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Required scrub color: Navy Blue
