Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Charlotte, NC, requiring a minimum of 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float within a regional hospital network.

Details

  • 36-bed PCU within a non-trauma, non-teaching hospital that is a designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA and IVDA, tracheostomies with mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA support at 1:9
  • 12-hour night shifts (1850–0720), 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required within the regional network (Region 2: Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division including CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) within scope of practice — candidates must be willing to float to all listed facilities
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitors: Philips; communication via Rover
  • No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurse, clinical supervisor, and staff are responsible for reading and posting rhythm strips each shift

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 18 months of PCU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Experience with trach/vented patients, cardiac drips, temporary/transvenous pacemakers, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Robust unit support includes CNAs, charge nurse, virtual nursing (assists with admissions/discharges, virtual patient observation, and RN witness co-signing for select medications), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, dedicated unit pharmacist, 2 case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
  • Intensivist coverage available until midnight; virtual/on-call critical care MD available overnight
  • Orientation includes facility-wide NEO plus 2 days of departmental onboarding
  • Required scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Parking is complimentary
  • Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
