Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PICU position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and proficiency in ventilator/trach management, with 12-hour night shifts on a 13-week contract.
Details
- Work in a 16-bed PICU within a newly opened Level II Trauma Center facility
- Unit serves a diverse pediatric population including respiratory patients (high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, trach), oncology/chemo, RSV, asthma, COVID, MIS-C, new onset diabetes with insulin drips, chronically ill, and trauma patients (falls, MVAs)
- Surgical patients include appendectomies, g-tubes, ENT, fresh trachs, bowel obstructions, fractures, VP shunts, cardiac, and neuro cases
- Cardiovascular patients include congenital heart defect patients who remain on the unit from surgery through discharge
- No solid organ transplant, major burns, or stem cell transplant cases
- ECMO is managed by ECMO specialists; travelers may take CRRT patients if they have prior experience and complete training on the Prismax (low volume)
- Uses Epic EMR (preferred but not required)
- 12-hour night shifts (1900β0700), 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg or the ED as Helping Hands or Constant Observer
Requirements
- Active WA RN license or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PICU nursing experience required
- Proficiency in aseptic and sterile techniques, basic dressing changes, ventilator and trach management, suctioning, G-tube/J-tube management, feeding tubes, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, drip management, and Foley insertion and management
- CRRT experience with Prismax preferred
- CICU experience preferred
- Must be able to pull sleeves above the elbow (no hooded shirts or long sleeves)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- At least one reference from a supervisor or above (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or equivalent) is required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to start
- Scrubs may be any color; no hooded shirts or long-sleeved garments that cannot be pulled above the elbow
- PICU beds are interchangeable with overflow from Med/Surg, with the unit serving a mixed neuro, cardiac, respiratory, surgical, and medical patient population
- In extremely rare COVID surge scenarios, care may be extended to patients up to age 30
- Severe facial wounds, eye injuries, or penetrating trauma are transferred to a Level I Trauma Center
