Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience, with night shift availability and a strong cardiac and complex patient care background.

• Work in a 36-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations in Charlotte, NC
• Patient population includes COPD/pulmonary disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, renal failure, sepsis, ETOH/CIWA and IVDA, tracheostomies with mechanical ventilation, continuous BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, hypothermia regulation, and titratable IV drips
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA support ratio of 1:9
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Floating required within Region 2 facilities: Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — within scope of practice
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips; communication via Rover

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 18 months of PCU experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with tracheostomy and ventilated patients required
• Skills required include: temporary/transvenous pacemaker management, cardiac drip (gtt) titration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube management, trach care, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

• Departmental support includes CNA coverage (ADLs, vitals, nutrition, blood glucose monitoring), charge nurse, virtual nursing (admissions/discharges, virtual patient observation, RN witness for select medications), 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, dedicated unit pharmacist, 2 case managers, a MedSurg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
• Intensivist coverage is available until midnight; critical care MD is available virtually/on-call after midnight
• No remote telemetry monitoring — charge nurses, clinical supervisors, and staff are responsible for reading and posting rhythm strips each shift
• Orientation includes a general facility orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
• A clinical interview is required for this position
• No on-call or call-back requirements
