Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position in Monroe, NC, requiring at least 18 months of PCU experience and the ability to float across a multi-facility regional network.
Details
- 11-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within a 174-licensed-bed community hospital
- Patient population includes stroke, heart failure, chest pain, COPD, cardiac cath pre/post, ETOH/CIWA, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders, liver failure, AKI/CKD, and patients requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:3–4; CNA support at 1:5–6
- Specialized skills include critical care drip management (Insulin, Nitroglycerin, Cardene, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, Heparin), blood product administration, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff/PEG tube placement, drain management, PCA pumps, and PIV starts
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors — no dedicated monitoring technician
- 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0700, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Floating required as needed across Region 2 facilities: Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital)
- No on-call requirements for travelers
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency with critical care drip management and general PCU skill set as outlined in job details
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Departmental support includes CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), IV/VAT team, resource nurse (as available), respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7, virtual after hours), and virtual nurses (24/7)
- Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental training
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Time-off requests require Resource Team approval
- Facility is TJC Stroke accredited and part of the Lee Garvey Chest Pain Network
- Required scrub color: Navy
- Free parking available on site
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
