Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and strong telemetry and drip management skills.

Details

  • Work in a 24-bed Medical/Surgical unit within a 874-licensed-bed, Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital that includes a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes sepsis, respiratory illnesses, GI disorders, infections, liver failure, AKI/CKD, home vents, and trach patients
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
  • Specialized skills utilized include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/Dobhoff/PEG tube management, Hemovac/JP drain/flexiseal/foley management, and PCA pumps
  • Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
  • Nurses are responsible for reading and responding to telemetry monitors — no dedicated monitoring tech on unit
  • 12-hour night shift, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call responsibilities for travelers
  • Floating required within assigned region (Region 2 or Region 3) and scope of practice to all listed facilities, as needed — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • General Med/Tele skillset required including telemetry interpretation, drip management, trach care, and complex drain/tube management
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position — local candidates are not accepted
  • Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year after working in a permanent position there
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN is required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit support includes CNAs (ratios vary), a receptionist/HUC, a 24/7 charge nurse, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), an IV/VAT team, a resource nurse (as available), and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Orientation includes a general facility NEO session followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; time may need to be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
  • Scrubs must be navy in color
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
