Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a CVOR/CV PreOp position in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 2 years of CVOR experience and active BLS and ACLS certifications.

Details

  • Position is based in the CVOR and CV PreOp unit (Heart Tower, Building E) of a large 815-bed regional referral hospital
  • CV PreOp unit has 4 beds with a 1:1 patient ratio
  • High-acuity cardiovascular patient population requiring critical care-level nursing
  • Monitoring equipment includes GE Carescape; ultrasound equipment is Fuji
  • Charting is performed in Cerner; experience is expected
  • CV PreOp schedule is Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM–1:30 PM
  • CVOR shift runs 6:00 AM–6:30 PM
  • Stay-late call required approximately 1–2 times per week
  • Floating within scope of practice and experience may be required
  • Unit staffing includes RNs with support from a CNC, unit secretary, and shared management with CVOR

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVOR or cardiovascular surgery RN experience required
  • Critical care nursing experience is required; PreOp experience is a plus
  • Experience with BCMA (barcode medication administration) required
  • Strong documentation, communication, and critical thinking skills required
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment required
  • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
  • One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include large-bore IV starts, chin-to-toe hair removal, medication administration, skin assessment, and assisting with arterial line, central line, and epidural placement
  • Additional duties include transporting patients to the OR and assisting with induction/intubation, positioning, and skin prep
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • The hospital holds Magnet® Designation, an STS three-star rating for cardiac surgery outcomes, and has been recognized as one of America's 50 Best Hospitals (Healthgrades, 2020–2023)
  • Facility is home to the only open heart and interventional cardiology program in the region and serves as a Level II trauma center
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but the role's acuity and experience requirements should be carefully considered
