Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Neuro Trauma ICU position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 1 year of ICU experience and recent Epic proficiency.

Details

• Neuro Trauma ICU setting within a 385-bed nonprofit, Level II Trauma Center (short-term acute care)
• Patient population includes medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases — common diagnoses include CVA, ICH, SAH, seizures, ARDS, CHF, DKA, sepsis, MSOF, post cardiac arrest, and ETOH withdrawal
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2
• Shift: 3x12-hour day shifts, 7:00–19:00
• Weekend scheduling based on unit needs — flexibility required
• No on-call requirements
• Travelers float between CVICU and NTICU, and may also float to Telemetry, Acute Care (Neurology, Surgical, Ortho/Med), Obs, and ED boarding; a 4-hour orientation is provided before floating
• Epic EMR — recent experience required
• Common equipment includes PA Catheters, right and left Impella, ventilators, Cheeta, CRRT, IABP, Zoll cooling catheter, and Arctic Sun pads
• Special procedures performed on the unit include chest tube insertion, central line and PICC placement, bedside tracheostomy, King tube placement, IO insertion, codes, massive transfusion, intubation, post cardiac arrest cooling catheter placement, Nitric Oxide administration, cardiac cooling pads, and removal of femoral and radial sheaths

Requirements

• Active OR RN license required; pending license applications accepted with proof of application
• Current certifications required (must be in hand before start): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Preferred certifications: TNCC, TCAR, CCRN, CSC, SCRN, and TCRN
• Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required; 2 years preferred — candidates with 1 year must have recent experience at a large facility
• Recent Epic experience required
• Prior trauma ICU experience required
• Required clinical skills include: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, multi-system organ failure, thermoregulation (hypothermia/hyperthermia), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, IV insulin protocols, chronic/acute renal failure, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care/management, continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, procedural sedation, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube insertion/removal assistance, ventilator management, care of ventilated patients, HFNC, ABG interpretation, ETT/NT suctioning, infection prevention, isolation precautions/PPE, surgical wounds with drains/wound vac, and temporary pacemakers
• 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide critical care nursing to a diverse neuro-trauma patient population including non-traumatic ICH, SAH, seizures, and BP management with parenteral vasoactive agents
• Bi-weekly Monday orientations; candidates should be prepared for an ASAP start
• Experienced travelers preferred — candidates with 2–3 prior completed travel assignments are strongly preferred; first-time travelers will not be considered
