Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Surgical Trauma ICU (STICU) night shift position at an ACS Verified Level I Trauma Center, requiring prior trauma and surgical ICU experience.
Details
- Position is located in a 20-bed STICU within a Magnet-designated, ACS Verified Level I Trauma Center
- Night shift hours: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Patient ratio is 1:2 (with 1:1 assignments as needed)
- Unit staffing includes 10 RNs per shift, 1 supervisor, 1 PCT, and 1 ICU waiting room HUC
- Procedures performed on the unit include intubation, extubation, chest tube placement, central line placement, A-line placement, Foley placement, bronchoscopy, endoscopy, proning, TPA administration, hypertonic medication administration, trach placement, EVD/bolt placement, CRRT/HD, irrigation and debridement, and minor surgery
- Equipment used includes EVDs, Camino/bolts, wound vacs, Baxter IV pumps, GE Carescape bedside monitors, GE ventilators, iCool machines, Blanketrol blankets, Bair Hugger, Prisma Max CRRT, Zoll, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and Alaris PCA pumps
- Documentation system: Cerner PowerChart
- 6 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule
- Travelers float before core staff and may be floated to other ICUs (MICU, NSICU, CVICU, CICU) or Step Down
- Modified self-scheduling available on this unit
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for ICU RNs
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care ICU experience required
- Trauma ICU experience at a Level I or Level II Trauma Center required
- Surgical ICU experience required
- LTAC experience is not considered in lieu of acute care ICU experience
- Cerner PowerChart experience is preferred given unit usage
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- Professional reference required (quantity may vary by candidate's state of residence)
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates will be considered
- Scrub color requirement: all navy, all white, or navy bottoms with a white top
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Team players with positive attitudes and flexibility are strongly preferred
- Candidates must demonstrate kind and compassionate patient experience skills
