Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Interventional Radiology (Neuro IR) position at a Level II Trauma Center, requiring ICU experience and membership on the facility's Stroke Team.

Details

  • Position is based in the Medical Imaging - Radiology unit within a 417-bed Level II Trauma Center and teaching hospital
  • Facility holds Primary Stroke and Chest Pain Center designation and is on the Journey to Magnet Status
  • Patient types are discussed during the interview process
  • 1:1 RN-to-patient ratio
  • Traveler will serve as a member of the Neuro IR Stroke Team
  • Unit is equipped with 2 cath labs and 2 hybrid peripheral/OR suites
  • Charting systems include Epic (required), Epic Cupid (preferred), Alaris, and Omnicell
  • Day shift hours are 0700–1530 when not on call, and 0730–1600 when on call
  • On-call rotation is one week on, two weeks off
  • Weekend rotation and holiday expectations are discussed during the interview
  • No floating required
  • 40 hours per week, variable shift schedule

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Completion of a board-approved nursing education program required
  • Minimum of more than 1 year of RN experience required
  • ICU experience is required for this role
  • IR-only experience will not be accepted as a substitute for ICU experience
  • Proficiency with endotracheal ventilation, including basic ventilator management
  • Experience with tracheostomy patients, including ventilation through stoma
  • Experience managing vasoactive drips, sedation drips, and safe use of paralytics
  • Skill in setup, troubleshooting, and use of arterial lines
  • Experience with External Ventricular Drains, including Camino ICP monitoring
  • Experience with external pacemakers and chest tubes
  • Experience with Swan/Cordis central line catheter use and monitoring
  • Ability to perform recovery and monitoring of arterial puncture sites
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
  • Charge nurse coverage is available Monday–Friday, 0600–1630
  • Orientation consists of 4 days of 10-hour shifts
  • Scrubs are procedural and provided by the facility
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • Time off requests must be approved through the unit manager
