Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position at a Level I Trauma Center in Chandler, AZ, requiring the ability to titrate cardiac drips and a pre-offer dysrhythmia exam.
Details
- 13-week contract at an acute care Level I Trauma Center in Chandler, AZ
- Assigned to the Telemetry Float Pool, floating between all Telemetry and MedSurg units, as well as observation floors, holding areas (Cath Lab, ER, hallways), and potentially between two campuses located approximately 9 miles apart
- Travelers float first priority; mid-shift unit changes are possible, and inter-campus floating within a single shift is rare but may occur
- Unit notification of campus and assignment is given 1.5 hours prior to shift start
- Patient ratios are 1:3–4 on Telemetry units and 1:4 on MedSurg units
- Centralized telemetry monitoring; RNs must be able to interpret EKGs
- Cardiac drip titration required, including medications such as Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, and Dobutamine
- Patient populations include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, CABG (day 2), neuro/post-surgical, CVA/post-TPA, spine, and general MedSurg (surgical, oncology, ortho)
- No pediatric patients; minimum patient age is 15 years old
- No ICP monitoring on the Neuro unit
- Charting system: Cerner
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per scheduling period
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- Navy scrubs required across all units
- RT and Pharmacy available 24/7 on all units
- PCTs available; ratio of approximately 1 PCT per 16 patients on Tele units
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted
- Must be able to titrate cardiac drips
- Ability to interpret EKGs and dysrhythmias
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia Exam prior to offer confirmation (maximum 2 attempts within 48 hours of offer)
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel pay rates (per AZ radius rule)
Additional Information
- A pass/fail Sterile Technique Sim Lab assessment (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
- Candidates who fail the dysrhythmia exam on both attempts or fail the Sim Lab will be ineligible for this health system's AZ and Sacramento-region facilities for 6 months
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility within this health system within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously placed through outside staffing firms on a PRN basis may still be considered
- Orientation includes approximately 2 days/shifts of floor-specific orientation per unit
- Each Tele and MedSurg unit is led by a Charge Nurse with no patient assignment, supported by a Clinical Supervisor or Unit Supervisor in a management role
- SWAT/House RN available for difficult IV access on MedSurg units; no dedicated IV team
- MedSurg units use Spectralink phones with integrated call lights
- Holiday coverage is required for 2 of 3 major holidays during the assignment
