Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of med/tele experience and a willingness to float across a multi-facility region.
Details
- Work in a 34-bed Med/Surg Tele unit at a 337-bed hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
- Patient population includes medical diagnoses such as DKA, sepsis, CHF, AKI, pneumonia, anemia, and sickle cell crisis, as well as surgical patients including spinal fusions, pancreatitis, and orthopedic total joint replacements (knees/hips)
- RN patient ratios are 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights, with potential surge ratios up to 1:7-8
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating is required across Region 2 facilities, including Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and the Central Division (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- No remote telemetry monitoring — telemetry reading and posting is the responsibility of unit staff each shift
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation required
- Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
- General medical/surgical skills required, including care of patients with tubes and drains, IV insertion, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

- Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a 24/7 receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, 24/7 IV/VAT team, a unit-dedicated pharmacist, two case managers, a Med/Surg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy (performs nebulizer treatments), a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage
- Orientation includes a general hospital NEO session followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
