Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a pediatric respiratory care night shift position at an academic medical center in Chapel Hill, NC.

Details

• Pediatric Respiratory Care Services unit at a large academic medical center
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week (36 hrs/week)
• Weekend requirement: 6 shifts per 6-week cycle
• On-call requirement: 1 weekend per 6 weeks
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• Procedures include ventilator setup and management, ventilator weaning, airway management, aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, tracheostomy care, endotracheal intubation/extubation, pulmonary function testing, ABG analysis, blood glucose monitoring, and ECMO management
• Advanced practice procedures may include UAC/UVC insertion, IV insertion, chest tube insertion, and needle decompression per Air Care Protocol
• May involve transport of pediatric and neonatal patients from referral hospitals

Requirements

• Current RRT certification from the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
• At least one of the following certifications required depending on practice area: ACLS, NRP, PALS, CPFT, or advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in a Bronchoscopy Lab
• All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical information and technical procedures
• Strong clinical documentation and communication skills
• Two professional references required for consideration
• License required if applicable

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and a broad range of respiratory care procedures for pediatric patients
• May manage extracorporeal circulation (ECMO) for cardiac and respiratory support
• May work with the air transport team to provide respiratory care and advanced practice procedures for pediatric and neonatal patients transferred from referral hospitals
• Expected to function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a clinical resource to other staff
• Responsible for maintaining and improving job knowledge and skills
• 14-week contract
