Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II trauma hospital in Bismarck, ND, requiring at least 2 years of experience and PCU background with the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Details

  • Acute care stepdown unit (Med/Tele/PCU) in a Level II trauma hospital setting
  • 32-bed unit focused on telemetry and cardiac care with PCU-level overflow
  • Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, COVID BiPAP, pneumonia, influenza, sepsis, and acute-on-chronic conditions
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4–5 (occasional 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level care overflow ratio is 1:3
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
  • RT equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are expected to manage these beyond basic troubleshooting
  • Telemetry portable monitors and in-room monitors are used; RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac strips
  • Charting is done in Epic (preferred, not required)
  • 12-hour shifts, primarily days (7a–7p), with night shift availability (7p–7a); rotating shifts will not occur more than weekly
  • Every other weekend required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Travelers are first to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, Med/Surg for full assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
  • No on-call or standby requirement

Requirements

  • Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • PCU experience required
  • Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips required
  • A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • Candidates who are currently or have been within the past year directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RTO must be requested upfront; a maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract will be considered, and no additional RTO will be approved
  • Orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
  • A charge nurse is present on both day and night shifts and may occasionally take a light patient load of 2–3 patients
  • PCTs are available with a goal ratio of 1:10
  • Any color scrubs are acceptable
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
