Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg night shift position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring 2 years of experience and a PA or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a Med/Surg unit (1W or 2E), each with private patient rooms
• 1W Med/Surg primarily serves post-surgical and orthopedic patients; 2E Med/Surg serves general medical patients including those with pneumonia, dialysis, palliative/hospice/end-of-life care, and low-volume inpatient chemotherapy
• 2E unit also houses COVID-positive ('dirty') patients on a designated hallway, separate from 'clean' patients — candidates must be comfortable with potential assignment to both hallways
• Patients on this unit may be on remote telemetry, monitored by a monitor tech on the 3rd floor; no bedside monitors or strip reading required by RNs
• Drips include Heparin and MSO4 for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Respiratory support includes BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow O2, all managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Patient ratio is 1:6–7
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday); also required to work 2 Fridays per schedule block
• Charting via Cerner EMR
• Floating limited to other Med/Surg units only
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are permitted as long as unit needs are met

Requirements

• Active PA RN license or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• BSN not required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Any hits or disciplinary actions on professional license must be disclosed at time of consideration

Additional Information

• 13-week contract
• Orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor
• A Clinical Manager is on-site Monday through Saturday, serving as both charge nurse and nurse manager; nights are covered by a resource nurse who carries a full patient assignment
• Each unit has 2 CNAs on day shift only; no CNA support on nights
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for this position
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before applying; this applies cumulatively — travelers cannot work within the WVU system for more than one continuous year without a 2-year break
• Holiday coverage is worked into the permanent staff rotation
• Navy blue scrubs required; any jacket worn must also be navy blue
• Work history covering 7 years (or back to graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days is required for consideration, including hospital size, unit size, trauma level, and teaching facility status for each position
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate held a permanent position within the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
