Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and Epic proficiency.

- Clinical Decision Unit in a 241-licensed-bed, Level 3 Trauma, Certified Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center hospital in Shelby, NC
- 24-bed unit with an average daily census of 24
- Diverse patient population including cardiac, respiratory, and neurological diagnoses in a fast-paced observation setting
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6 (days and nights), with potential surge ratios up to 1:7–8; CNA support at 1:12
- Common procedures include cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), IV starts, blood product administration, wound care/dressing changes, and care of patients with tubes and drains
- EMR: Epic (minimum 6 months of experience required)
- IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; patient monitoring: Masimo in all rooms
- Telemetry monitoring is performed remotely via a telemetry technician
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM (badge in 6:45 AM–7:15 PM), 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Low census call is possible; callback available up to 3:00 PM for day shift
- Holiday coverage required for 75% of assigned holidays
- Floating required within Region 3 (Cleveland, Kings Mountain, Lincoln, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) per regional needs — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply
- Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Epic EMR experience required (minimum 6 months; amount of experience should be noted in your profile)
- Proficiency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and management of non-titrating cardiac drips
- Core Med/Surg/Tele skill set required, including IV starts, blood product administration, wound care, and care of patients with tubes and drains
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
Additional Information
- Provide MedSurg/Tele nursing care to a diverse medical patient population in a fast-paced clinical decision unit
- Department support includes CNA coverage, charge nurse (may carry a patient assignment), phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (24/7), on-site hospitalist (day shift) with virtual coverage evenings and overnight, and intensivist (24/7)
- No HUC support is available on the unit
- Orientation consists of NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Scrub color: Navy
- Free on-site parking is available
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
