Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Med/Surg travel assignment requiring a PA or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit within a hospital setting, with private patient rooms
• Patient population includes post-surgical, orthopedic, pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life, and low-volume inpatient chemotherapy patients; COVID patients may also be assigned
• Patient ratio is 1:6-7
• Remote telemetry monitoring is possible; tele patients are monitored by a monitor tech on a separate floor — nurses are not required to read strips
• Drips include Heparin and possibly Morphine Sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Respiratory support (BiPAP, CPAP, High Flow) is managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Clinical Manager present Monday–Saturday serving as both charge nurse and nurse manager; nights are covered by a resource nurse who carries a full patient assignment
• Two CNAs are available on day shifts; no CNAs on night shifts
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) required, plus 2 Fridays per schedule block
• Charting is done in Cerner
• Floating is limited to other Med/Surg units only
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules are permitted as long as unit needs are met

Requirements

• Active PA RN license or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN is not required
• Cerner EMR experience preferred
• Copy of unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Any hits or actions on professional license must be disclosed
• Must be comfortable caring for both COVID-positive ('dirty') and non-COVID ('clean') patients simultaneously
• Work history covering 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days required for consideration
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if permanent employment was held in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before re-applying
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
• Orientation consists of 1 shift with a preceptor
• Travelers are integrated into the permanent staff holiday rotation
• Navy blue scrubs are required; any jackets worn must also be navy blue
• Chemo administration on this unit is handled by the director and manager, not floor nurses
