- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period, at unit discretion
- Holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Travelers may be floated between up to 4 facilities: St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, and two free-standing ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale (approximately 30 minutes apart); floating can occur mid-shift
- Navy scrubs required
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (active, non-pending): BLS, ACLS, and PALS — ENPC is not accepted as a substitute for PALS
- Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN
- Minimum 2 years of ED/Emergency Room experience required
- Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level I experience required
- Must be able to read cardiac monitor strips (Phillips monitors)
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility — driver's license is used to verify permanent address

- Driver's license required for consideration
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to accepting an offer (2 attempts allowed; failure results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit AZ facilities)
- Personal vehicle required — travel between float facilities is the traveler's responsibility
- Natural hair color required; facial piercings not permitted
- Men must be clean-shaven (required for fit testing)
Additional Information
- Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Orientation consists of approximately 2–3 shifts on the floor
- A pass/fail exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation — a study guide is provided in advance
- SIMs Lab is required for ED travelers and includes Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath access (instead of central line dressing changes); SIMs Lab is pass/fail and maintaining sterile field is critical — nurses have been dismissed for breaking sterile field
- Additional orientation topics include lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only, as policies and equipment vary by facility)
- The ED also sees approximately 30–40 psychiatric holds
- Travelers housing should account for float zone coverage across up to 4 facilities roughly 30 minutes apart
