Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a 13-week travel assignment at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of ER experience and a minimum of 6 months of Level 1 Trauma experience.
Details
- Acute care hospital emergency department with 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays
- Level 1 Trauma Center treating approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day), including trauma, burns, chest pain, and spinal cord/TBI cases
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Telemetry monitoring via Philips monitors; ability to read strips is required
- Cerner EMR
- Ventilators managed by Respiratory Therapy (RT available 24/7); pharmacy on-site 24/7 with a pharmacist in the ER 10 hours/day
- 12-hour evening shifts with varied start times between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM
- 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period, at unit discretion
- Holiday coverage based on unit needs
- Travelers may be floated between up to 4 facilities: St. Joseph's Main, St. Joseph's Westgate, and two freestanding ERs in Litchfield Park and Glendale (facilities approximately 30 minutes apart; floating can occur mid-shift)
- Navy scrubs required
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (active, no pending accepted): BLS, ACLS, and PALS — note that ENPC cannot substitute for PALS
- Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN
- Minimum 2 years of emergency department RN experience
- Minimum 6 months of Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Ability to read cardiac monitor strips (Philips monitors)
- Competency in sterile field technique, including Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required
- Must have own personal vehicle for floating between facilities
- Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
- Men must be clean-shaven to pass respiratory fit testing
Additional Information
- Candidates must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer acceptance; two attempts are allowed — failure of both results in a 6-month ineligibility period at CommonSpirit Arizona facilities
- A pass/fail sterile technique skills assessment (SIMs Lab) is conducted on Day 1 of orientation, covering Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion; breaking sterile field results in termination
- A separate pass/fail competency exam is also administered on Day 1 of orientation
- Orientation consists of approximately 2–3 shifts on the floor (12-hour orientation period)
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
- 30–40 psychiatric hold patients are common in this unit
- 2 Charge RNs on duty, providing task support or carrying a light patient load; 4 PCTs available as sitters
