Description

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist/ECMO Specialist for a NICU/Pediatric Critical Care position requiring 4+ years of ECMO experience and RRT or RRT-NPS certification.

Details

• Hybrid role combining Registered Respiratory Therapist and ECMO Specialist duties at a pediatric hospital
• Provides general neonatal/pediatric respiratory critical care and operates ECMO systems on critically ill patients
• May backfill as a Respiratory Therapist when ECMO assignments are unavailable
• Works in NICU, Pediatric Critical Care, Pediatrics, and Emergency Department settings
• 1:8 patient ratio
• Epic EMR experience required
• Day shift (3x12 hours, 7:00-19:30) or Night shift (3x12 hours, 19:00-7:30)
• Every third weekend required

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of experience as an ECMO Specialist operating ECMO equipment on patients required
• RRT or RRT-NPS certification required
• BLS and PALS certifications required
• Valid MA Respiratory Therapist license required if applicable (pending license accepted, must obtain during booking)
• Trauma Level I and Level II experience required
• Prior travel experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Proficiency with centrifugal ECMO systems (not roller pump) required
• Skilled in priming ECMO circuits, managing centrifugal ECMO pumps, and responding to circuit clots
• Experience administering blood products and medications and drawing labs from ECMO circuit
• Ventilator management skills including CPAP, BiPAP, high frequency jet ventilator, and high frequency oscillator
• Experience with neonatal/pediatric equipment such as bubble CPAP, oscillating ventilator, and pressure/volume ventilator
• Ability to respond to bedside emergencies in less than 10 minutes
• CES-P and E-NPEC certifications preferred

Additional Information

• Responsible for routine ECMO management and equipment operation
• Performs circuit changes, priming, and troubleshooting of ECMO systems
• Provides respiratory care for conditions including ARDS, RSV, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, and respiratory distress syndrome
• Assists with intubation, extubation, and airway management procedures
• Supports patient transport including neonatal and inter-departmental transports
• Participates in pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, and tracheostomy care
• Candidates must live within 50 miles of the facility to qualify for travel rate; local candidates accepted at a lower rate
• Two verified professional references required from two of the last three facilities worked, from different facilities
