Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CVPC) position requiring stepdown and telemetry experience, with a focus on CV and vascular surgery patients.
Details
- Located in the E4 Heart Tower of a hospital in Asheville, NC
- 40-bed cardiac surgery stepdown unit serving CV surgery and vascular surgery patients, including open heart surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, Bentall, TAVR), thoracic lung surgery (lobectomy, thoracotomy), esophagogastrectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass, and carotid endarterectomies
- Overflow medical cardiology patients include diagnoses of heart failure, DKA, chest pain, sepsis, heart block, and more
- Patient ratio is 1:5 RN-to-patient on the primary unit; floating assignments may have ratios of 1:5 (stepdown), 1:6–7 (med-surg), or 1:6 (ER inpatient holding)
- Day shift staffing includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 1.33 HUC; night shift includes 1 charge RN, 13 RNs, 4 PCTs, and 0.33 HUC
- Equipment used includes Baxter IV pumps and CADD epidural pumps
- EMR: Cerner
- Day shift hours: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Minimum of 6 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday, day or night) required per 6-week schedule period
- Flexibility to work holidays is required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating to any stepdown, med-surg, or ER inpatient holding unit may be required
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of assignment)
- Minimum 2 years of RN clinical experience in the specialty
- Stepdown experience required
- Telemetry experience required
- US SSN and DOB required for consideration
- Professional reference(s) required for consideration
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Procedures commonly performed on the unit include epidural management, chest tube management, tube feedings, IV Glucommander, and cardiac drip management (phenylephrine, dobutamine, dopamine, milrinone, Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, ketamine)
- Prior CV/vascular surgery experience (open heart, TAVR, lobectomy, AAA repair, fem-pop bypass) within the past year is preferred
- CVICU experience is preferred
- The ideal candidate is a team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is flexible
- Scrub dress code: all navy, white tops with navy bottoms, or all white
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- First-time travelers are not specifically excluded, but 2+ years of experience is required
