Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II Trauma Emergency Department position at a high-volume Magnet-designated hospital in Asheville, NC, requiring at least 1 year of ER experience and multiple emergency certifications.
Details
- 101-bed Emergency Department within a Level II trauma and comprehensive stroke center hospital
- Typical patient ratio of 4:1 for medical patients, up to 7:1 for ED behavioral holds
- Support staff includes techs in cardiac monitoring, internal processing, triage, and unit clerks on days and nights
- Equipment includes Baxter pumps and GE monitors
- Documents using Cerner EMR
- Night shift schedule: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Every other weekend required; scheduling must meet the needs of the department and block scheduling is not available
- Floating is limited to within the ED only, but flexibility to work in all sections of the ED is required
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of recent ER experience
- Experience in a Level II trauma center, comprehensive stroke center, or high-volume ED (100,000+ annual visits) preferred
- Required certifications prior to start: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, CPI, and NIHSS
- ENPC required within 90 days of start
- Previous HCA experience preferred
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two required if licensed in Florida or Missouri)
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible
- Navy scrubs are required
- Responsibilities include patient experience practices such as AIDET communication, respectful behavior, keeping patient boards updated, and providing ongoing patient communication throughout the visit
- The department is known for strong teamwork and serves a highly multicultural community with over 120 languages represented in the area
- Previous permanent employees of this HCA facility are not eligible
- First-time travelers are not explicitly excluded, but prior ER and trauma center experience is strongly emphasized
