Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a General Surgery Telemetry position at a Level II trauma center hospital in Asheville, NC, requiring telemetry competency and urology/bowel experience.

- Located on the 8K General Surgery unit (K-Tower, 8th floor) of a large 815-bed Magnet®-designated hospital and Level II trauma center in Asheville, NC
- 44-bed general surgery unit with a staff of 75
- Primary patient populations include urology and bowel surgery patients, as well as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, podiatry, bowel resection, plastics, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, oral/maxillary, thyroidectomy, and hernia repair cases
- Patient ratios are 1:6 on day shift and 1:7 on night shift
- Common procedures and equipment include TPN, PCA pumps, wound vacs, tube feeds, PEG tubes, dobhoffs, NG tubes, colostomies, urostomies, biliary/JP/nephrostomy drains, CBI, urinary catheters, heparin drips, and IV antibiotics
- Equipment includes telemetry monitors and Baxter IV pumps
- EMR: Cerner
- Day shift hours: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (12-hour shifts)
- 6 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to other med-surg areas
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted; must not expire within the first 30 days of start)
- Telemetry competency required
- NIH Stroke Scale certification required for Telemetry RNs
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in general surgery or telemetry
- Experience with urology and bowel surgery patient populations required
- Ability to manage 6–7 patients depending on shift
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (two references required for candidates licensed in Florida or Missouri)
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
- Scrub dress code: navy blue pants, navy blue or white scrub top; white undershirt permitted if needed; no sweaters, sweatshirts, hoodies, coats, or jackets
- Ideal candidate is positive, energetic, and a strong communicator with charge nurses, unit secretaries, providers, and CNA team members
