Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week night shift PCU travel assignment in Chattanooga, TN, requiring cardiac/telemetry and PCU or critical care experience.
Details
- 29-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the main building of a hospital in Chattanooga, TN
- Heavy cardiac patient population including CV surgery patients transitioning from the ICU, as well as medical and surgical complex patients (sepsis, stroke, MI, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, DKA, acute/chronic respiratory failure, GI bleed, post-op CABG, aortic valve surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, and more)
- Patient ratio of 4:1
- Unit supported by unit secretaries (day shift) and 2–3 PCTs depending on census on both shifts
- Equipment includes Welch Allyn Dynamaps, Philips telemetry, Philips MP2, Pyxis, Alaris pumps, Hill-Rom beds, iMobile devices, and MobiLab
- EMR: Meditech
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (19:00–07:00)
- 13-week contract
- 3 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
- Self-scheduling available within reason to maintain balanced staffing
- Block scheduling can be accommodated for night shift
- Travel RNs float before core staff, with rotation based on oldest float date
Requirements
- Active TN or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required for PCU RNs
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in PCU or a related specialty
- Cardiac/telemetry experience required; PCU and/or critical care experience required
- Proficiency with advanced skills: IV insertion, chest tube management, DHT/NG insertion and management, tracheostomy care, CVC management, EKG interpretation, Foley management, and early patient mobility
- US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two references)
- No employment gaps of 90 days or more in the past 12 months
Additional Information
- Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- RNs on both day and night shift have ICU experience and are available as resources
- iMobile devices (iPhones) are used each shift for encrypted communication with the care team and mobile chart access via PatientKeeper
- MobiLab is used for specimen collection (microbiology specimens such as MRSA screens and UAs); phlebotomy is not performed by PCU nurses
- Wound documentation is completed on the iMobile device using the wound care app, with photos uploading directly to the patient's chart
- Common PCU drips include Dopamine, Dobutrex, Nitro, Heparin, Cardizem, Lidocaine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Cardene, Labetalol, Insulin, and Precedex (titrated)
- Q6H head-to-toe assessments are performed and fully charted
- Navy scrubs required
