Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a 3J Oncology unit at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Oncology unit (3J) within a 457-licensed-bed, Level III Trauma, teaching hospital
- 14 private rooms with no negative pressure capability; remote telemetry monitoring handled by an off-unit arrhythmia center
- Patient population includes oncology patients (new and existing diagnoses), neutropenic fever, patients requiring fluid resuscitation or blood products, chemo/biotherapy administration, and medical overflow
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; CNA coverage on nights is 1:11–14
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (1845–0715)
- 36 hours per week; schedule cycles every 6 weeks
- Every other weekend rotation required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and the Central Division (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – pediatrics only)
- EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; med dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Unit equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, and Patient Safety Net
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, and chest tube management
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy; ONS certification is preferred but not required — only experienced oncology RNs will be permitted to access ports
- CNAs support the nursing team with ADLs, bathing, foley care, mobility, repositioning, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and glucometer checks
- Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility among RNs, CNAs, and the IV team; an IV/VAT team is available
- Charge nurse typically carries a patient assignment; resource nurse available when staffing allows; RT and hospitalist coverage available 24/7 (not unit-dedicated)
- Orientation includes new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Required scrub color: navy
- Free parking is available on-site
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Former permanent employees of any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
