Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and strong cardiac and stroke skills.

• Emergency Observation Unit (EOU) in a 457-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital
• The unit has 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5
• Required skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/PEG/Dobhoff tube placement, drain management (Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals), foley insertion/management, and PCA pumps
• Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (0650–1910)
• 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates must be willing to float to any facility within the region as needed
• No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation and stroke experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must provide the last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

Additional Information

• Department support includes a supervisor, charge RN (who may or may not carry a patient assignment), a resource RN to assist with admissions and discharges, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage; phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs and an IV/VAT team
• Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
• Required scrub color is navy
• Free employee parking is available on-site

• First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
• This facility is a Stroke Center of Excellence, Chest Pain Center, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and a teaching hospital
