Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital in Concord, NC, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and strong cardiac and stroke skills.

- Emergency Observation Unit (EOU) in a 457-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital
- The unit has 10 beds with an average daily census of 8 patients
- Common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Required skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT/PEG/Dobhoff tube placement, drain management (Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals), foley insertion/management, and PCA pumps
- Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM (0650–1910)
- 36 hours per week on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates must be willing to float to any facility within the region as needed
- No on-call or call-back requirements
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation and stroke experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must provide the last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- Department support includes a supervisor, charge RN (who may or may not carry a patient assignment), a resource RN to assist with admissions and discharges, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage; phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs and an IV/VAT team
- Orientation includes a new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Required scrub color is navy
- Free employee parking is available on-site
- The unit is described as a great team environment with an active team culture
- First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- This facility is a Stroke Center of Excellence, Chest Pain Center, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and a teaching hospital
