Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Telemetry (Tower 5) travel assignment at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Arizona, requiring at least 2 years of experience and the ability to pass a pre-employment dysrhythmia exam.
Details
- Acute care setting in a Medical Telemetry unit (Tower 5) at a Level 1 Trauma hospital in Arizona
- 30-bed unit serving high-acuity patients with diagnoses including GYN surgeries, pre-liver transplant, ESRD, cellulitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and DKA
- Patient ratio of 1:4
- Philips telemetry monitoring in use; RNs are required to independently read EKGs
- Vent exposure includes BiPAP and CPAP; patients must be independent on these devices
- Charting via Cerner EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
- Holidays worked on a rotating basis per unit coverage needs
- Travelers are first to float; float destinations may include MS/Tele, Westgate campus, or AZ General Laveen Campus
- Support resources include a dedicated charge nurse (no patient assignment), 2 PCTs, SWAT RN for difficult IV access, RT 24/7, and pharmacy 24/7
- 13-week assignment
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Proficiency with IV insertion and management required
- Competency in sterile technique, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, is expected
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer confirmation (2 attempts allowed)
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by a valid driver's license
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Responsible for providing telemetry nursing care to a high-acuity medical patient population with approximately 1/3 patient turnover per day
- On Day 1 of orientation, nurses complete a pass/fail SIMs Lab covering sterile Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; nurses have been terminated for breaking sterile field during this evaluation
- Orientation also includes educational sessions on lifts, restraints, and wound care
- Floor-specific orientation is 2 days
- Candidates who fail the Relias DYS exam or SIMs Lab on the second attempt will be ineligible for CommonSpirit AZ positions for 6 months
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms may be considered
- Scrub color is navy
- Natural hair color is required; facial piercings are not permitted
- Male nurses must be clean-shaven for mask fit testing
- Travelers must have their own personal vehicle
- First-time travelers are not specified as eligible — prior acute care telemetry experience is strongly implied by the high-acuity environment and Level 1 Trauma requirement
